Life passes quick and years go by. Now in a darkened tomb I lie. A stone rolled shut, to seal me in, Because of consequence of sin. But then, whats’s this? A glorious sight! My shadowed tomb is filled with light! I should be shut in, I have done much wrong, But alas, the stone! Not there, but gone! How can this be? I get to the floor I make my way to the opened door. The outside light comes into view, Someone moved the stone away, but who? And then a thought comes to my mind: ‘I have rescued you and all mankind. I have drunk the bitter cup for all, So man might overcome the Fall. Because of that, all men have a choice, To remain entombed or obey My voice. They have power, now, their lives to shift. All they need to do is accept my gift.’ With heartfelt joy, I drop to my knee Giving thanks to Him who paid my fee; Who came down to rescue and restore, That for me there may be barriers no more! This piece is that of the tomb that once held our beloved Savior, Jesus Christ. The tomb is now empty, of course, but an observer will notice a pillar of light over the rolled away stone and the irony of growth surrounding its base. What was once used to seal in death is now, itself, surrounded and sealed by life. Because of Jesus Christ, there will be barriers no more. Stones that seal us up to death and consequence have been permanently rolled away and overcome with the Light of Life. Christ has paved the way for all of us, He has cleared every obstacle. Barriers that would have sealed us up have been COMPLETELY removed, not partially; the door for our escape is wide open, clear, and unobstructed! All that is required of us is to accept and seize this great gift and CHOOSE to walk out into the light! I testify that Christ truly overcame death. He did rise from the tomb. Because of this, there are barriers no more! Reproduced from the artist''s digital artwork created with Photoshop. Created 2026.
I’m an artist from Utah and a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I have fallen in love with art since the 4th grade, but have only started actively pursuing it professionally near the end of 2024. My name is Alan Deaton, however my artistic “pen name” is Paul Marli. This stems from a business name my wife and I created years ago which utilizes both of our middle names. Although the name pays homage to us both, I am the artist of these pieces.
I’ve mostly worked digitally but strive to keep it close to working in a traditional way (avoiding digital effects and exclusively digital tools). I have plans to work on physical, traditional mediums as well.
I believe art has the capacity to motivate, uplift, and inspire. A piece may not change the world around us, but I believe it can change someone’s world; all it takes is the right piece! Rather than simply trying to manufacture a “pretty picture”, my aim is for my art to be instructive. It is my hope that someone who spends time with my pieces gains a deeper understanding about a characteristic or attribute of Jesus Christ; that they understand a little more about His true nature.
I have a testimony and sure knowledge of God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. My art is one of my ways I hope to spread and share my testimony with others. I do my best to draw on my own personal experiences when composing a piece and creating the “right” title. Sometimes I’ll spend hours trying to get it just right, but I will not move forward until I feel it is right.
Each piece I make contains a part of my own testimony and experience with the Savior. It is my hope that my pieces can give you, at least a little, your own precious experiences with Him.
