24 X 48 Oil on Canvas In my childhood, my mother’s garden was always in full bloom with roses, dahlias, peonies, cockscombs, and hydrangeas. I was captivated by the beauty of those flowers and loved watching the constellations shift in the night sky with perfect precision. Observing the intricate rules and order governing humans, animals, plants, and the vast universe, I began to wonder: "Could there be a Creator behind all of this?" At the time, my parents were devout Buddhists and, for various reasons, were not fond of Christianity. However, driven by a pure curiosity about the Creator, I would occasionally offer a solitary prayer: "God, if You created everything in nature and the universe, and if You truly exist, would You help me find my way to church?" One day during my freshman year of high school, a childhood friend asked me to stop by their church briefly to pick something up. I agreed, but upon arriving, I told my friend, "My mother dislikes the church, so I will wait outside." A moment later, my friend emerged with a group of people who greeted me with a playful and welcoming smile: "Hi! We won''t bite. Why don''t you come inside?" Their lighthearted humor felt so sincere and inviting that I didn''t want to refuse. With a sense of ease, I found myself stepping through the doors. It was at that very moment, as I entered the church, that an extraordinary sensation washed over me—something I had never felt before. It felt as though something incredibly white and soft was pouring down upon my head. Stepping into the hall, I blurted out, "Everything is so white. Why is it so white?" In all my life, I had never experienced a light so brilliantly bright and pure. In this painting, I sought to capture that transcendent moment when I first felt the Light of Christ as an answer to my prayer. Therefore, I titled this work The First Light Upon the Heart. Original artwork of Oil on Canvas 24" x 48". Framed at 29.5" x 53.5" Painted 2026.
