The Widow's Mite - The power of the story of the poor widow who cast two mites into the temple treasury comes in part from her profound faithfulness, her sincere trust in the Lord, and her humility. In the midst of obvious hardship, she gave “all that she had, even all her living” (Mark 12:44).
We don't know much about the woman Jesus spoke of while telling the parable of the widow's mite. I have often seen this woman cast in illustrations and depictions as a later in life person, but I wonder if she could have been a young mother. I marvel at the sacrifice it would have been for her to give all that she had, even all her living, while perhaps raising a child and providing for them both. I grew a deeper appreciation of this parable while working on this painting and contemplating the blessings that come from sacrificing on the Lord's behalf.
