“Generations of Mothers” was first inspired by Michelangelo’s painting of the Creation of Adam. His painting was from a masculine perspective and I found myself excited to create a feminine version, with Heavenly Mother creating Eve. But the creation of Eve was more than the creation of just one woman, she was the vessel through which all the generations of the earth would be born.
Heavenly Mother is the Mother of all our spirits. Eve was the first mortal mother and she, and the mothers after her, are still mothers to each of us. The seeds of all of them are in us. Their wisdom is in our DNA. We are not alone in raising our children. There are numerous helping hands on both sides of the veil.
So Heavenly Mother created Eve, who created her daughters, who created us, who created our children, who will create children of their own. But not only does this image represent where we have come from, but it also represents who we are becoming. Notice the baby’s lifted finger on her right hand and her gaze looking to the women before her. She is preparing to follow in their footsteps. An infant girl is born, who grows up to become a mother, who eventually leaves this mortal sphere and continues on to the spirit world, where she will eventually be crowned with glory, and she will be like Her, and all the Mother has will be Hers.
